Background Work Underway to Onboard Tesla to AP

Tesla, the world-renowned leader in electric vehicle production, is all set to enter the Indian market. The company is already preparing to establish showrooms in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Along with this, Tesla is also taking steps toward manufacturing its cars locally in India. The company has begun evaluating potential locations for its plant in India, and several states are vying to attract Tesla to their regions. Andhra Pradesh (AP) is one of the front-runners in this race, and recent developments suggest that the state is leading the competition.

It is noteworthy that, previously, South Korean car company Kia set up its plant in the Anantapur district of AP. During the competition for Kia’s plant, it was TDP leader and AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s strong brand image that helped bring the company to the state. Now, there is a growing belief that the same strategy may work for Tesla as well.

Chandrababu Naidu has long been focused on attracting Tesla to AP. Recently, after the swearing-in of the new government in the state, TDP National General Secretary and AP Minister Nara Lokesh went on a visit to the United States. During his trip, he visited Tesla’s office and met with the company’s representatives, inviting them to invest in AP. He also presented the state’s positive investment climate and business environment.

Tesla’s representatives reportedly responded positively to Lokesh’s proposals. While it is unclear what specific details were shared, just a few days ago, AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) Chairman Ramarao visited the Menakuru Industrial Zone in the Tirupati district. During his visit, he inquired about the availability of vacant land in the area and whether it would be suitable for a Tesla facility. Similar assessments were reportedly conducted in nearby areas like Sri City and Krishnapatnam.

The key factors being considered for these locations include proximity to ports, highway connectivity, industrial growth rates, and availability of skilled labor. These aspects are being carefully evaluated to ensure that the region is well-equipped for Tesla’s manufacturing needs. Given these ongoing efforts, there is a growing belief that it is only a matter of time before Tesla makes its way to Andhra Pradesh.
