Intercity connectivity is always a crucial aspect of a state’s overall development. The same applies to Andhra Pradesh, one of the few South Indian states with airports in multiple districts. However, concerns are now being raised about the lack of direct connectivity between these airports.
TDP MLA and veteran politician Ganta Srinivasa Rao recently expressed disappointment over the fact that he had to travel from the financial capital Vizag to the designated capital Amaravati (via Vijayawada) through Hyderabad.
“To travel from one place in Andhra Pradesh (Vizag) to another place in Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada), I had to go via Telangana (Hyderabad). I arrived at Visakhapatnam Airport at 8 AM, took a flight to Hyderabad, and from there caught another flight to Vijayawada. I finally reached Gannavaram Airport by 1 PM,” he explained.
Trade representatives from organizations like CII and FICCI, who were also traveling from Visakhapatnam to attend an evening meeting with Honorable Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, had to follow the same route via Hyderabad, Ganta added.
The TDP MLA argues that better connectivity is needed between the two buzzing cities, Vizag and Vijayawada, to facilitate smoother and more efficient travel. This becomes even more important considering the NDA government’s focus on collective development in both regions.
One potential solution could be increasing the number of direct flight services based on passenger demand or introducing regular, scheduled services to support dedicated travelers, including public representatives. A resolution might be possible if the matter is escalated to Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu, who is also a TDP representative.
