‘Not in a Position to Borrow from Sai Reddy’

The ongoing liquor scam investigation from the previous YSRCP regime has taken a dramatic turn, resembling a crime thriller in real life. As part of this probe, the SIT has been summoning key YSRCP leaders for questioning one after another.

Just a day after questioning Vijayasai Reddy, the SIT summoned YSRCP MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy for interrogation in Vijayawada. What followed was an intense and suspense-filled 8-hour questioning session — far longer than the 3 hours spent with Vijayasai Reddy. With over 100 questions fired at him, this session sparked curiosity and political buzz over what Mithun was asked and what he revealed.

Mithun Reddy is considered one of the closest associates of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Being the son of former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and a two-time MP with a successful track record, his closeness to Jagan and active involvement in party activities made his interrogation a significant development in the case.

Interestingly, Vijayasai Reddy had reportedly told the SIT that he helped arrange loans amounting to ₹100 crore for Mithun Reddy. He also mentioned that he had discussions with Mithun and Kasireddy Raj about the state’s liquor policy. These statements reportedly increased the focus on Mithun during his interrogation.

Adding to the gravity of the investigation, reports suggest that most liquor sales during the YSRCP rule were routed through distilleries owned or linked to party leaders. This made the questioning even more crucial.

The SIT reportedly posed more than 100 questions during the 8-hour session at the Police Commissioner’s residence in Vijayawada. When Vijayasai Reddy’s statements were brought up, Mithun is said to have denied them outright. He allegedly told investigators that he was not in a position to borrow money from Vijayasai and that his businesses span Africa and other countries. He also stated he had never interfered in the liquor trade.

For most other questions, Mithun reportedly responded with “don’t know” or “don’t remember.” On his meetings with Vijayasai, he claimed they often meet and discuss various topics and insisted it was wrong to assume their meetings were solely about liquor-related dealings. Regarding Kasireddy Raj, Mithun clarified he has no personal or business connections with him.

After the long interrogation, Mithun Reddy briefly addressed the media, saying, “My bail petition is under hearing in the Supreme Court. At this point, it is not appropriate for me to speak to the media.” With the investigation picking up pace, this episode has turned the liquor scam case into a gripping political drama — and more twists are likely to follow.
