The brutal killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir last month triggered several protests from the political parties and people’s organisations alike. While the Centre is busy involved in giving a tit-for-tat reply to the neighbouring country, the BJP leaders in various states are also taking out candle light rallies and registering their condemnation.
BJP’s ally Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is more vocal in condemning the bloodshed and the terror attack. He raised his voice against the violence unleashed by the Pakistan intruders in the country and the killing of tourists, including his party activist Madhusudan Rao, in the attack. In a veiled attack against the Congress, which played the secularism card following the attack, Pawan Kalyan slammed them for trying to justify the heinous act on religious grounds. It is unacceptable and anti-national, he said. The strong-worded deliberate criticism against the Congress has not come from a national party like the BJP but a regional party, Jana Sena, in Andhra Pradesh.
Just as he had taken a firm stand in criticizing those involved in the adulteration of the Srivari laddoo at Tirumala and also the stampede at Tirupati when tickets were being issued for the Vaikunta Ekadasi at the Tirumala shrine in January this year, Pawan Kalyan had been assertive in slamming those supporting the carnage at Pahalgam. He suggested that such persons supporting Pakistan should go and live in that country.
The Deputy CM even hit back at PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s threat. To Bhutto’s ‘blood will flow’ threat, Pawan said: “If need arises, we will spill out blood for the nation.” He added: “They should be reminded how they lost the past three wars. We have to send the visual to them, around 70,000 soldiers, how they were treated, at the same time, if they try to overboard, every Indian will come to Pakistan.”
Pawan Kalyan’s statements were broadcast in national media too, solidifying his image in the national-level politics. Surprisingly, pro-BJP media channels in the BJP-ruled states had broadcast Pawan’s statements and they have even gone viral on social media.
It is learnt that the BJP bigwigs in New Delhi had even got Pawan Kalyan’s remarks translated into Hindi and heard to them several times. Apparently, not stopping with just listening, they even called him up and appreciated him for registering his strong protest. There is no official information about personally appreciating Pawan Kalyan but if sources are to be believed, Jana Senani has surpassed the BJP leaders in registering protest in connection with the Pahalgam attack.
