The Pahalgam terror attack completely strained the diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan. After withdrawing the Indus Water Retreat, India has made a decision to ban direct or indirect imports from Pakistan. In a recent government order, India directed that imports of all goods are banned with immediate effect.
A newly added provision in the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) mentions the latest order. At the same time, another order by the Directorate General of Shipping said any ship bearing the flag of Pakistan wouldn’t be allowed to visit any Indian port.
The order mentioned, “This order is issued to ensure the safety of Indian assets, cargo and connected infrastructure, in the public interest and for the interest of Indian shipping.”
On the flip side, Pakistan also suspended all trade with India. Interestingly, India usually imports goods related to agricultural commodities but Pakistan is dependent on India for pharmaceutical supplies.
