One of the principal electoral promises made by Chandrababu Naidu was the free RTC bus travel program for the female population. This was one of the hallmark announcements made by Chandra Babu before the historic Andhra Pradesh election.
However, due to logical and financial reasons, this program got delayed by nearly a year. The likes of YS Sharmila made a meal of the situation by protesting against the government and creating a public agitation over the delay. This was slowly proving to be a problem.
However, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who had been determined to deliver public friendly governance in this tenure has acknowledged the situation.
While taking part in a public event in Kurnool today, the chief minister announced the timeline for the implementation of the free RTC travel program. He tentatively stated the free RTC travel program will be imposed from the 15th of August, which marks the Independence Day.
This is a pretty significant announcement from Chandrababu, considering the magnitude of this program and the kind of mass outreach that it can pull if implemented properly. This could potentially be the game changer for the NDA alliance as it would largely shift the female voting population in their favour.
Nevertheless, Chandrababu and his government will face a significant challenge in the implementation of this program, considering the existing losses in the RTC system and the financial burden that this free travel program would add.
