Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath Passes Away

In a huge blow to the opposition BRS party, one of its long-standing MLAs, Maganti Gopinath, has been declared dead by the doctors at AIG Hospitals, where he was undergoing treatment on a ventilator. Maganti Gopinath (62) was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition following a massive cardiac arrest on June 5th at 2:30 PM. Leaving his family members, supporters, and the BRS party in utter grief, Maganti Gopinath reportedly breathed his last at 5:45 AM on Sunday.

Born in Hyderabad’s Hyderguda on June 2, 1963, Maganti Gopinath was the son of Andhra settlers Maganti Krishnamurthy and Mahananda Kumari. He was a huge fan of legendary actors NT Ramarao and Superstar Krishna. He was a member of the TDP ever since its inception in 1983. Gopinath’s bullet rallies in support of NT Ramarao and former actor and Tamil Nadu chief minister MGR were much-talked-about political events of that time.

Noticing Maganti Gopinath’s passion and enthusiasm, NT Ramarao made him the Telugu Yuvatha President in 1985. He also served as the HUDA Director between 1987-1990. During that time, Gopinath maintained cordial relationships with the then rising politicians Nara Chandrababu Naidu and KCR. In 2014, Maganti Gopinath contested the Telangana Assembly Elections on a TDP ticket and registered victory amidst intense opposition against Andhra settlers. He later joined the KCR-led TRS party and went on to win the assembly elections in 2018 and 2023.

Before becoming an MLA of the Jubilee Hills constituency, one of the largest constituencies in Telangana, Maganti was a prominent producer in the Telugu film industry. He produced four acclaimed movies, such as Srikanth and Suresh’s Paatha Basthi (1995), Rajasekhar and Soundarya’s Ravanna (2000), Nandamuri Tarakaratna’s Bhadradri Ramudu (2004), and Rajasekhar and Bhumika Chawla’s Naa Style Ye Veru (2009).

Even though Maganti Gopinath couldn’t find success as a film producer, he never tasted failure in his political career. He defeated former Indian cricketer and Congress candidate Mohammad Azharuddin with over 16,000 votes majority in the 2023 Assembly elections. Maganti Gopinath is survived by his wife Maganti Sunitha, son Vathsalyanath, and daughters Divya Aksharanag and Disira.
