BRS rebel leader Kavitha made strong remarks today, calling the Banakacherla project a “conspiracy” aimed at giving contracts to well-known contractor Mega Krishna Reddy. Speaking to the media, she said the project has no real benefit for the people of Andhra Pradesh and is being planned only to help Mega Engineering.
“As a sister, I too want water to reach farmers’ fields in Andhra,” Kavitha said. “But this project only sends water to areas that are already getting it. There’s no new development happening.”
She claimed the true purpose of the project is not irrigation or progress, but to hand over a massive contract to Mega Krishna Reddy. “This is not about helping people. This is just to give contracts to Mega Krishna Reddy,” she said firmly.
Kavitha went on to challenge the government, saying the project will definitely end up with Mega Engineering once again. She also alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to Hyderabad was to ensure Mega Company gets a share in a huge ₹85,000 crore project.
“I’m openly challenging them,” she said. “Let’s wait and see. Tomorrow, you’ll find out this project is handed over to Mega Engineering.”
Kavitha also pointed out that the Central Water Commission, the Godavari River Management Board, and the Polavaram Project Authority had already rejected the initial plan of the Banakacherla project. Yet, she questioned why the Chief Minister continued to hold meetings on it and then brushed them off as “unofficial.”
Her comments raised serious concerns about corruption and favoritism in the handling of major government projects in Andhra Pradesh.
