On one hand, the NDA government and Chief Minister Chandrababu are working around the clock to deliver on electoral promises. Key schemes like Thalliki Vandanam, Anna Canteen, Matsyakara Bharosa, and Annadatha Sukhibhava are already in full swing.
While the top leadership is putting in so much effort to fulfill these promises, occasional slip-ups by NDA leaders are giving the YCP a chance to build an anti-incumbency narrative. One such incident has now come to light involving Minister Atchannaidu, who is known for his occasional verbal lapses.
While speaking at a public event, the senior minister commented that the Adabidda Nidhi program, which is yet to be implemented, is a tough one to execute.
“We have implemented all the programs we promised. But if we are to allocate ₹1500 per woman under Adabidda Nidhi, then we would need to sell the state of Andhra Pradesh. However, Chief Minister Chandrababu is working relentlessly to make it happen,” said Atchannaidu.
This statement may have been made with the prevailing financial condition of the state in mind. However, it has inadvertently given the YCP ammunition to criticize the government.
YCP has now deployed female leaders like Roja, Vidadala Rajani, and others to attack the NDA government. They have started questioning, “Didn’t Chandrababu know about the financial situation when he made these promises? He always makes big promises before elections and forgets them after winning.”
This line of criticism from the YCP would not have gained momentum if Atchannaidu had not made such an unnecessary and careless remark. The comment has gone poorly with the public and may have undone some of the goodwill earned by the NDA’s ongoing efforts.
Even some TDP supporters have expressed concern, suggesting it would be better if senior leaders avoid such statements going forward.
