3 Months Buffer For These Telangana MLAs!

It is a common practice in South Indian politics, or perhaps even an Indian politics for MLAs to win the elections from one party, and then immediately shift to another party based on electoral outcome.

The same happened to be the case with Telangana politics as well, considering that as many as 10 MLAs left BRS to join Congress after the 2024 Telangana election. Ever since then the BRS has been fighting illegal battle to disqualify these MLAs for crossing constitutional line.

The matter had been under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and a key statement has been delivered now.

The apex court to pointed out that it is not right to hold the political cases at the court for months or even years together.

In connection with this case that was filed by the BRS against the MLAs, who had joined the Congress, the Supreme Court said “The Telangana government is given 3 months time to take a call on these defecting MLAs. And if that does not happen, the court itself would take the call.”

This comes right after the BRS had moved the Supreme Court to disqualify the MLAs who left the party to join Congress. The Supreme Court has now granted three months buffer period for the Telangana government to take a decision in this regard.

Ironically enough, the very same BRS had earlier poached multiple MLAs from Congress to the degree that the Congress legislative party itself was merged with BRS in the Assembly after 2018 election. But now that the roles have reversed, the BRS is working all out against their MLAs, a social observer remarked.
