In yet another good news to the people in Andhra Pradesh, Google expressed readiness to invest $6 billion to develop a 1-gigawatt data centre and its power infrastructure at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. This is Alphabet unit’s first such investment in India.
In tune with its promises of generating employment and aiding development, the NDA government has been focusing on developing Andhra Pradesh as an investment hub. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu went on a 4-day trip to Singapore to attract investments into the state.
The data centre investment will also include $2 billion in renewable energy capacity that will be used to power the facility. According to sources, Google’s data centre in AP will be the largest in capacity and investment size in Asia and is part of a multi-billion-dollar expansion of its data centre portfolio across the region.
It may be recalled that Alphabet, in April said that it was still committed to spending some $75 billion this year to increase the data centre capacity, despite US President Donald Trump imposing tariffs on nations in the world.
