Politics have largely become a game of absolute power and financial prowess. Even an MLA is generally worth several crores as they enjoy surplus financial resources. So there is this common notion that they do not need any further financial or materialistic assistance from the government.
However, the government of Delhi thought of this principal in the exact inverted manner as they provided all 70 MLAs in the house with free Apple iPhones, and iPads.
Incidentally, the Delhi government decided to provide all 70 MLAs, including the opposition candidates with the latest model of iPhones and iPads. This is a part of the go digital drive that is being carried out by the Delhi government and also to eradicate paper usage in the Assembly house.
But nevertheless, the fact that the government provided all 70 MLAs with the latest version of iPhone and iPad has left social media on absolute fire and there is a lot of backlash on the same.
“If all 70 MLAs in Delhi receive a free iPhone 16 Pro, and considering the approximate retail price of an iPhone 16 Pro (128 GB) in India is ₹1,19,900, the estimated total cost would be:
70 MLAs × ₹1,19,900 = ₹83,93,000 Only” an anguished social media user posted.
Another user sarcastically pointed out “I can bet all of them already have iPhone 16 and within a month, they’ll throw it away to buy the iPhone 17 pro. Such a waste of taxpayers’ money!”.
