Center Neglects Hyderabad Again?

For a long time now, Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy has been complaining against the lack of adequate support from the central government and Prime Minister Modi. He had been looking for an amicable solution for this problem and has been requesting for support from the prime minister with Telangana’s interests in mind.

But it appears that the central government is still unmoved about their reluctance to lend a helping hand to Telangana. The same is to be understood from the latest decision taken by the central government with regard to the Hyderabad Metro.

Incidentally, the central government had allocated in the range of ₹5800 crore towards the 1 phase of Lucknow Metro. But in contrast, there was absolutely no development with regard to the Hyderabad Metro phase 2, which had become a topic of discussion.

The second phase of Hyderabad Metro spans across 76.4 km and is regarded as one of the most efficient routes around. This new phase of the Metro project is projected to connect the old city and also the Hyderabad airport. The projected estimate for this project is ₹24,269 crore.

But the issue is that the central government did not make any significant allocation to the Hyderabad Metro, despite the repeated pleas from the government. Meanwhile, the Telangana government had already completed the demolition process for the second phase of Metro and has even paid out the compensation for the same.

On the other hand, Chennai and Bengaluru metros have been able to sanction adequate funds. On top of that, the central government has even approved the Vijayawada and Vizag Metro projects on priority.

But when it comes to the Hyderabad Metro, which happens to be one of the busiest in India, there has been very little progress in this regard.
