After shattering the private employment sector, the Coronavirus pandemic is now showing its deep impact on the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). Already, the country’s richest Hindu temple has been closed due to the virus outbreak.
Now, the TTD has fired 1,300 contractual sanitation and maintenance workers who were asked not to report for work starting from May 1st as their contracts have ended on April 30th. The TTD authorities have informed the agency that supplies the contractual workers that the contract will not be renewed.
Confirming the same with the media, TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy has assured that he will “explore the ways to help them,” after the workers who lost their jobs have appealed to the authorities to renew their contracts.
Due to the situations that resulted following the Coronavirus outbreak, the TTD budget of Rs 3,309 crores may undergo reviews and the authorities are anticipating a huge cut. Meanwhile, several trade unions have been strongly condemning the TTD’s decision.
