One of the main narratives carried by former Chief Minister YS Jagan was his desire to move to Vizag and run the administration from there. He even built the highly expensive Rushikonda Palace, costing nearly ₹500 crore, in pursuit of this aspiration.
Jagan himself expressed this desire multiple times in public meetings and also at the Siddham meeting, where he spoke about wanting to shift to Vizag and develop it as the capital.
However, the poorly planned three-capitals proposal, with Vizag as the executive capital, was largely condemned by the people of Andhra Pradesh. This was clearly reflected in the 2024 electoral mandate, where the YCP suffered a devastating defeat.
After that, doubts remained about whether Jagan would still try to move to Vizag and operate from the lavish Rushikonda Palace, which overlooks serene beach views. But this idea was completely dismissed by Jagan’s close aide, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy.
In a recent conclave, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy firmly stated that Jagan will remain in Tadepalli and focus on developing a mega city between Guntur and Vijayawada as the capital if he returns as Chief Minister.
Ramakrishna Reddy categorically rejected the theories about Jagan continuing with the Vizag plan, making it clear that Vizag will no longer be considered for capital development.
This directly contradicts the original purpose behind the Rushikonda Palace, which was built with public funds and cost the state nearly ₹500 crore. Some people are even commenting that Jagan may have wanted the luxurious amenities of the palace along with its scenic beach views, but going by Sajjala’s latest remarks, it seems that dream will remain unfulfilled.
