In what would be considered an extremely positive breakthrough for the NDA government at the centre, the maoists have communicated an unconditional ceasefire and downing of arms.
According to national media reports, CPI(Maoists) spokesman Abhay has issued a press release that the Maoists are “temporarily” withdrawing armed troops and have sought time for resolving talks.
This communication from the left extremist wing comes a day before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrates his 75th birthday.
However, the centre is still cautious about the authenticity of this press release from the Maoist wing, and they are reportedly verifying the background activities related to the same.
This comes in close proximity to the recent cracking down of the Indian armed forces against the extremist groups. In fact, union Home Minister, Amit Shah had even communicated that Maoists have till March 2026 to completely surrender to the Indian armed forces, else their eradication will be mainstreamed.
It must also be noted that the Indian armed forces had pretty significantly wiped out the main members of the Maoist groups and this indefinitely led to mounting pressure on the left groups.
