Telangana is preparing for the local body elections, which are going to commence on October 9 and right before the electoral roll, the Revanth Reddy government received reprieve from the Supreme Court.
Incidentally, the Revanth Reddy government had announced 42% reservation for the BC community in the upcoming local body election. This was challenged at the Telangana High Court by a man named Madhava Reddy, and the hearing was pushed to October 8.
In the meanwhile, another person named Gopal Reddy had approached the Supreme Court asking for cancellation of the order issue by the Telangana government in connection with the BC reservation.
This case came to a hearing at the Supreme Court today, and it was disposed off almost immediately. The apex court commented that the case is still in hearing at the Telangana High Court and there is no point in approaching the Supreme Court at this point in time.
The petitioner was reprimanded by the Supreme Court for knowingly approaching the apex court while the case is still withheld at the high court.
This would essentially mean that the local body elections would proceed with the 42% BC reservation which is aspired by the Revanth Reddy government. Unless ofcourse, the high court passes any contradictory judgment on Oct 8 and cancels the reservation order passed by the government earlier. The suspense now gets pushed to the judgement on Oct 8.
