Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has directed the collector of Kadapa district to initiate measures to restore the ancestral house of prophet and spiritual teacher Sri Veera Brahmendra Swamy garu at Kandimallayapalle in the district, which was damaged due to severe Cyclone Montha. His swift action in restoring the pilgrimage centre has won appreciation of the devotees.
The ancient house, considered a sacred pilgrimage centre which draws devotees from far and wide in the state and across India, collapsed under the impact of the severe cyclone. On hearing the news about the collapse of Brahmamgari Matam, many of his devotees slammed the officials for neglecting the upkeep of the Matam, when it showed signs of dilapidation. They also criticized the officials for failing to provide basic facilities at the Matam.
Sri Potluri Veera Brahmendra Swamy is a 17th century mystic known for his book Kalagnanam, in which he made numerous predictions about the future. His devotees believe that many of the prophecies have come true. Popularly known as Brahmam garu, he is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and also called by the nickname “Nostradamus of India”.
Recognising the significance and rich heritage associated with the place, Lokesh issued orders to preserve the ancient structure by taking up necessary steps immediately.
