The Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll is witnessing sluggish voter participation, with only about 31.8 percent turnout recorded by 1 PM. In the previous election, the constituency had seen just 47 percent polling, and many expected a higher turnout this time due to the tough competition. However, even in this closely fought contest, voter enthusiasm has not increased.
Despite multiple awareness campaigns by the Election Commission urging citizens to vote, the turnout in the posh Jubilee Hills constituency remains low. Known for its affluent communities, the area has a consistent trend of poor participation, and this bypoll seems to follow the same pattern.
This election holds special political significance as it comes after the demise of former BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. His wife is contesting on the BRS ticket, facing Congress candidate Naveen Yadav in a direct battle. The result is expected to signal the mood of Hyderabad’s urban voters and could influence the political momentum in the state.
Analysts believe that TDP sympathisers may play a key role in deciding the outcome. While many might lean toward Congress under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the caste factor could benefit the BRS candidate, given her community ties.
Election officials are hopeful that polling numbers will rise in the later hours, but the early trend indicates that the wealthy voters of Jubilee Hills continue to stay away from the ballot box.
