Adulterated Ghee case : SIT To Enquire YV Subba Reddy

The Central Bureau of Investigation led Special Investigation Team appointed by the Supreme Court of India has intensified its probe into the supply of toxic and counterfeit ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam during 2019 and 2024 for preparation of the sacred laddu prasadam for Lord Venkateswara Swamy. After examining former TTD EO AV Dharma Reddy a couple of days ago, the SIT authorities are now preparing to grill former Chairman YV Subba Reddy. 

Reportedly, SIT has summoned Subba Reddy to attend for inquiry into the adulterated ghee case as it strongly believes that he played a prominent part in the scandal while serving as TTD Chairman during 2019 to 2023. The SIT informed the High Court that Subba Reddy’s role is ‘Suspicious’ because he did not take any action even though the fake supply was noticed in 2022 itself. A few days ago, Subba Reddy’s personal assistant Chinnaapanna was taken into custody for colluding with contractors and facilitating supply of illicit ghee to TTD after taking bribes. 

YV Subba Reddy is said to have cited health issues for his inability to attend SIT inquiry in Tirupati scheduled to happen this week. However, SIT refused to grant any permission and instead decided to question him at his Hyderabad residence on this 20th. A team of SIT officials will visit Subba Reddy and conduct inquiry into his role in this high-profile case. 

The SIT is likely to extract more information from Subba Reddy during this interrogation and record his statements if necessary. This inquiry will have a key development in the case because the SIT believes that YV Subba Reddy is well acquainted with the entire scam and did not take any coercive action even after he came to know about the irregularity. 

If SIT implicates YV Subba Reddy as one of the accused in this case, it likely to create huge political tremors in Andhra Pradesh because he is a close aide and uncle of former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The SIT has already sought the bank account details of both Subba Reddy and his wife Swarnalatha Reddy as part of investigation.
