Ideally, any electoral position must be won fair and square in the election with the democratic vote of the common public. But in certain cases, politics supersede this proposition and money takes over all else.
In the case of the upcoming Sarpanch election in Telangana, this is exactly the case as several constituencies have reportedly been going towards “Unanimous” verdicts thanks to money overflow.
In the case of Tankara Village In Hanwada Mandal of Mahbubnagar district and individual has reportedly bid Rs 1 crore for the Sarpanch seat in order to make it a unanimous election. He is ready to pay the villagers, a sum of ₹1 crore to win the seat without any competition.
A similar scenario was observed in the Mittadoddi seat in Jogulamba Gadwal district as an individual reportedly offered to pay ₹90 lakh for the Sarpanch seat there.
Reportedly such Sarpanch seats across Telangana are being auctioned for massive prices as people are ready to pay a lot of money to ensure unanimous elections. This is a dangerous trend in the electoral system, but that is how things are in certain rural pockets.
