RRR Torture Case: What PV Said During Probe

Former CID chief and IPS officer PV Sunil Kumar faced a detailed interrogation in the custodial torture case linked to former MP and present AP Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju. The questioning went on for nearly four hours, but sources say most of his responses were vague and evasive.

Sunil Kumar appeared at the Guntur CCS police station for questioning. The interrogation began around 10:45 am and continued until the evening, with a lunch break of about an hour in between. The entire process was conducted under video recording and in the presence of two VROs, as per procedure.

According to reliable sources, investigators asked him several direct questions about his role in the case. He was reportedly questioned about why force was used, who gave instructions, and whether senior officials were involved. Officers also asked about the individuals who allegedly covered their faces during the interrogation of Raghurama.

Sources say Sunil Kumar gave partial answers to some questions, remained silent on a few, and responded with “I don’t know” to others. Overall, his approach during questioning appeared guarded, with little clarity offered on key points.

The case dates back to 2021, when Raghurama Krishnam Raju was arrested by CID police on Rajadroham charges during the previous YCP government. Raghurama later alleged that he was brutally assaulted while in custody and suffered serious injuries to his legs.

He approached the courts, and the incident triggered widespread debate across the country at the time. PV Sunil Kumar, who was serving as Additional DGP of CID then, was named as a prime accused in the case.

After the NDA government came to power in Andhra Pradesh, the investigation into the custodial torture case picked up pace. As part of this renewed probe, Sunil Kumar has now been summoned for questioning. Several others connected to the case are already under investigation, and further action is expected based on the findings.
