An emotional moment seen during the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet meeting over the issue of district reorganisation. The discussion focused on proposals to merge Rayachoti, currently the headquarters of Annamayya district, into the newly planned Madanapalle district. During the debate, Minister Ram Prasad Reddy reportedly became emotional and broke down while expressing concerns about Rayachoti and the sentiments of local people.
Ram Prasad Reddy, who represents Rayachoti as an MLA, urged the Cabinet to consider the region’s development and public feelings before taking a final call. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stepped in to console the minister and explained the administrative and technical challenges involved in continuing Rayachoti as a district headquarters.
The Chief Minister assured that the government would take full responsibility for Rayachoti’s development and ensure that the region does not suffer any loss. He clarified that the decision was not taken lightly and said it was unavoidable under the current circumstances. Naidu also acknowledged the minister’s efforts in fighting for Rayachoti to remain a district centre.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved the broader district reorganisation plan. New districts including Madanapalle, Markapuram, and Rampachodavaram will be created, taking the total number of districts in Andhra Pradesh to 28. A final gazette notification is expected to be issued soon, along with approval for five new revenue divisions and the merger of Gudur into Nellore district from Tirupati district.
