The team behind Jana Nayakudu had firmly maintained from the beginning that the film was not a remake. However, that confidence faded after the trailer release. The three minute video sparked fresh debate online, with viewers pointing out clear similarities to Balakrishna’s Bhagavanth Kesari. Many dialogues, fight sequences, and even the hero’s character were seen as closely matching Balakrishna’s film. Anti fans quickly became active, targeting Vijay, and the inclusion of a few AI generated shots in the trailer only added to the criticism.
As it became clear that Jana Nayakudu closely follows Bhagavanth Kesari, Kollywood audiences grew curious about the original film. Since Bhagavanth Kesari is already available on OTT platforms with a Tamil dubbed version, many viewers began watching it without any language barriers. The film soon started trending on Amazon Prime, drawing renewed attention and even earning praise from Tamil critics.
A similar situation had occurred earlier in Telugu cinema when Mohanlal’s Lucifer was available on OTT before Chiranjeevi’s Godfather released. Fans who watched the original lost excitement for the remake, and the changes made in the second half failed to impress, affecting the film’s overall response.
Now, with Jana Nayakudu, expectations remain uncertain. If the trailer itself has triggered this level of discussion, the real test will come after the release. Still, Vijay’s strong screen image may act as a shield against the backlash and help the film find its audience.
