The Enforcement Directorate has issued a notice to former YCP MP Vijay Sai Reddy in connection with the Andhra Pradesh liquor case. He has been asked to appear before the agency on January 22 for questioning.
The ED is probing alleged irregularities in the liquor policy followed in Andhra Pradesh between 2019 and 2024. Officials suspect large scale money laundering and hawala transactions linked to the liquor business during the previous government’s tenure.
According to the investigation, the liquor procurement system was changed from an automated process to manual approvals. This is said to have helped certain groups manipulate supply contracts and inflate costs. The agency claims that suppliers were forced to pay commissions and that the money was routed through shell companies and fake invoices.
The case is being investigated by the ED along with a Special Investigation Team of the Andhra Pradesh police. Several cases have already been registered and many people connected to the liquor trade have been questioned.
The notice to Vijay Sai Reddy is seen as an important development in the ongoing investigation. More clarity is expected after his appearance before the ED next week.
