Amaravati Bill In Parliament: What YCP MP Says

One of the principal detractors of the YSR Congress during the 2024 election was the controversial stand the party took on Amaravati. On one hand, Jagan remained inconclusive about Amaravati by floating the three capitals idea and then attempting to shift the administrative core to Vizag.

However, even after tasting a major defeat in the election and acknowledging the capital issue, Jagan did not change his stance. Just a month ago, he said there is no such term as “capital” in the Constitution and claimed that Chandrababu is wasting public money on an unsustainable project like Amaravati.

With Jagan himself showing such strong opposition to Amaravati, it is clear that the YCP still carries negative sentiment toward the capital. But now, the party leadership appears to have taken another U-turn on the issue, possibly to undo the damage caused by Jagan’s earlier remarks.

In this context, Jagan’s close aide and YCP MP Mithun Reddy made an interesting statement today. “YCP is never against Amaravati. In fact, we are ready to fight for the capital in Parliament and will speak in its favour in the upcoming session. We are here to fight for the people of Amaravati,” he said.

It is surprising to see that YCP’s top leader Jagan holds one view on Amaravati, while his close associates express a completely different position. Political experts are commenting that people may be confused about whom to trust within the YCP on the capital issue, as the leader says one thing while his party members say another.
