AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to introduce at least 1,000 electric buses in APSRTC as part of the government’s push towards clean and sustainable public transport.
During a review meeting at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of adopting environmentally friendly mobility solutions across the state. He said expanding the electric bus fleet will help reduce fuel costs, cut pollution, and improve the overall efficiency of public transport services.
The move is in line with the government’s larger vision of promoting green energy and reducing carbon emissions. Recently, more than 5,000 electric cycles were distributed in Kuppam, reflecting the state’s commitment to eco friendly transportation alternatives.
Officials have been asked to prepare a clear action plan for the phased induction of electric buses. The Chief Minister noted that public transport should not only be affordable and accessible but also environmentally responsible.
With the addition of 1,000 electric buses, APSRTC is expected to significantly lower its operational costs in the long run while contributing to cleaner air in urban areas. The initiative is also likely to attract central assistance and private participation in electric mobility infrastructure.
The government aims to position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in sustainable public transportation in the coming years.
