Jana Nayagan Makers Withdraw Case: Isn’t It Too Late?

The political ambitions of Thalapathy Vijay has started to show repercussions on his film career as his Jana Nayagan film, which was supposed to release during the pongal season got delayed due to censor implications.

In accordance with this, the makers had approached the Madras High Court and subsequently the Supreme Court while battling against the CBFC, which is an unconventional choice.

After the Supreme Court refrained from interfering and sent back the matter to Madras High Court, the makers appear to have changed their course of action. The latest updates are suggesting that the production who has decided to withdraw the case against the CBFC.

KVN Production LLP’s counsel-on-record, Vijayan Subramanian, has informed the Madras High Court registry through a letter that the producer has decided to withdraw the writ petition filed against the CBFC regarding Jana Nayagan.

The letter states that the producer has opted to approach the CBFC’s Revising Committee instead and will not continue with the legal proceedings.

But the timing of this withdrawal is perhaps a point of question, considering that the damage has been done already. The primary point is that the film missed the lucrative and ideal Pongal season and subsequent early February release due to the legal challenges.

One option was to release the film after the Tamil Nadu general election, but that would mean that all the momentum would have lost already. So with the election fast approaching and also the mounting pressure from the OTT platforms, the makers have now withdrawn the case at the court.

This is perhaps a bit too late in terms of adequate action, considering the lucrative Pongal is gone already and the focus is now on elections.

But whatever might be the reason, the film will ultimately have to see daylight and it has to be seen when the makers would actually release the film now amidst this complex situation.
