In recent years, the volume of the fraudulent and scam cases happening on the digital network has been going up drastically. This has now taken a serious turn for the worse as people are starting to lose money on fake traffic challan, unclaimed bank account money, and digital arrest scams.
Subsequently, the government of Telangana has rightly launched a new operation to deal with the situation and this new project is named “Operation Octopus.” This is a fight against digital scams happening in the state and also serve as a testament to the whole country.
Operation Octopus is an initiative conceived to dismantle cyber fraud networks nationwide. In recent times, there has been a surge in cases of victims falling prey to investment scams, trading frauds, and “Digital Arrest” scams, resulting in the loss of their hard-earned money.
In a concerning instance of insider conspiracy, a Relationship Manager from Bandhan Bank was arrested for colluding with fraudsters to facilitate the opening and operation of fraudulent accounts.
The scale of ‘Operation Octopus’ was unprecedented, covering the vast geographical expanse of the nation. To execute this massive crackdown, 32 Special Teams were constituted, each spearheaded by an Inspector-rank officer.
If this model turns out to be successful like the “HYDRAA” project in Telangana, then operation Octopus must be brought to implementation in other parts of the country as well. This must safeguard the Telugu population from the thousands of scams that are happening very frequently on digital mediums.
