One of the primary campaigns carried out by the Telugu Desam Party before the 2024 election was the eradication of drug culture in Andhra Pradesh. Considering the numerous complaints about drug peddling and consumption during the YCP tenure, Chandrababu, Lokesh, and Pawan Kalyan vowed to eliminate this problem at the root level. Several reformative measures were also taken.
However, the latest incident involving TDP Eluru MP Putta Mahesh has caused significant damage to the party on multiple levels. The leadership had already asked Mahesh to stay away from party activities and sought an explanation within five days. Now, Chief Minister Chandrababu himself has acted on the matter.
While interacting with TDP leaders from the Tirupati segment last night, the Chief Minister spoke strongly about the young MP, who he said is damaging the party’s reputation.
“Why should the party carry leaders who abuse such substances? We gave Mahesh a chance because he is young and comes from a credible family. But he completely ruined it by indulging in such activities. What was the need to attend that party” Chandrababu said.
Generally known for his forgiving and composed nature, Chandrababu appears clearly displeased given the seriousness of the issue and the damage it has caused. He also strongly addressed the party leadership on this matter.
Now that the leadership has sought an explanation and the Chief Minister himself has expressed his displeasure, it remains to be seen whether the demand from neutral observers to suspend the MP will be acted upon by the TDP.
