Big Relief For India: Hormuz Is Open Without Restrictions

India has been one of the badly affected countries due to the repeated restrictions on the pivotal waterway, Strait of Hormuz, ever since the conflict erupted between the USA and Iran. The soaring natural gas prices have burdened the middle and poor class families and have had a ripple effect on other economic issues.

In what could be a major relief for global trade and energy supply, Iran has now officially exempted Indian commercial ships from strict transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. Senior Iranian lawmaker Ahmad Hayat-Moghaddam confirmed that vessels from India, along with China, Iraq, and Qatar are permitted to navigate safely through the strategic waterway.

The announcement comes amid growing naval tensions and heavy military presence in the Middle East that threatened to disrupt vital sea lanes. This is a heartwarming update that hints at a strong diplomatic win for India as uncertainty over the end of the escalation between the warring nations continues further.

Iranian officials specifically mentioned India’s crucial role in supplying essential medicines and medical items to Iran during tough economic times. This exemption allows Indian cargo ships and oil tankers to continue their maritime routes through the gulf without facing any obstacles.

The exemption is not free of cost because Iran has imposed that Indian merchant vessels will need to pay standard transit fees to passage authorities while cross the key waterway. Nevertheless, this is a big relief for India. Moreover, the news also brings huge cheer for Indian seafarers who faced the consequences of the war.

In recent times, many sailors lost their lives and several of them were seriously injured due to attacks on the Strait. Now, it will be tension free travel for sailors. With Indian vessels now allowed passage, the fear of surge in fuel prices and disruption of other supply chains will considerably reduce in the coming days.
