Assembly elections are coming up in five states, and the election schedule has already been announced. In some states, notifications have also started. Normally, this phase brings high political activity, strong campaigns, and national leaders taking center stage. But this time, the Congress party is unusually quiet.
In earlier elections, leaders like Rahul Gandhi and other top Congress figures used to actively campaign, hold meetings, and lead election strategies across states. However, in this election cycle, such visibility is missing. The campaign responsibility is mostly being handled by local and state-level leaders.
In Assam, Congress is facing major difficulties in forming alliances. Without a strong and clear strategy, the party is finding it hard to challenge the ruling leadership, especially against a strong incumbent like Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In Tamil Nadu, Congress is part of the DMK alliance, but seat allocation has created dissatisfaction. Out of 240 total seats in the alliance arrangement, Congress received only 36 seats. Because of this, local leaders are now forced to manage campaigning, while questions are being raised about whether the party sacrificed assembly strength for other political benefits.
In West Bengal, the situation is also unclear. Earlier alliances with left parties are not active in the same way now, and Congress does not have a clear seat-sharing agreement. Meanwhile, the BJP has already announced candidates in many constituencies, making the contest more focused between BJP and Trinamool Congress.
Kerala remains one of Congress’s stronger states, but even there internal unity is weak. Although leaders are publicly confident about winning a majority of seats, ground-level coordination problems are visible. At the same time, reports suggest that the ruling Left government under Pinarayi Vijayan is maintaining strong public support.
In Puducherry too, coordination issues between Congress and its allies are creating uncertainty. Political analysts believe that the BJP-led alliance may have an advantage in the region.
Overall, the biggest concern for Congress is its low national visibility in this crucial election period. The absence of strong central leadership presence, unclear alliances in some states, and internal coordination issues are affecting its campaign momentum. Meanwhile, rival parties are already active and trying to gain early advantage before voting begins.
