One of the significant development in Tamil Nadu politics is happening shortly as the state is going for Assembly elections in less than three weeks from now. While the polling is scheduled to be held on April 23, the results will be out on May 4.
On that note, the discussion has slowly shifted towards Kamal Haasan, who is facing a very peculiar situation in Tamil Nadu politics now.
Kamal Haasan, who had ambitiously launched his own political party in the name of MNM was expected to be active in the electoral Arena. But after facing a disastrous result in 2021, where his party lost every single Assembly seat, Kamal has collectively decided to stay away from the election this time.
In what could be considered an extremely interesting announcement, Kamal had communicated last week that his party will not contest any seat and will extend its support to DMK. While this might be in the best interests of Kamal Haasan, an adverse reaction is felt from his followers.
Apparently, 60 members had filed applications worth Rs 50,000 each to contest on Kamal’s MNM party ticket. However, now that the legendary actor has stated his party would not contest the election, all of them are in disarray. Reportedly, they have started to demand Kamal and his party leadership to return their money.
On paper, this might not look like too much of financial impact on Kamal, but such adverse reactions from his own supporters, could dent his political image in Tamil Nadu. Better at the same time, Kamal is enjoying privileges like Rajya Sabha position and full backing of the ruling DMK so he might not have seen the need to build an electoral campaign at this point.
