Surprise Surprise: AIADMK MLAs Ready To Support Vijay?

Dramatic political scenes have been unfolding in Tamil Nadu after the high-stakes 2026 assembly results came out on Monday, with no party securing the magic figure and Vijay’s TVK emerging as the most successful one by winning a majority of 108 seats out of the 234.

As Indian National Congress which forged an alliance with DMK and won 5 seats voluntarily came forward to support Vijay as the Chief Minister with demands for cabinet berths and other assurances in the new government to be led by TVK, it appeared like both these parties are going to tie up to stake claim in the presence of Tamil Nadu Government by seeking support from other smaller regional outfits, including the VCK, CPI(M), CPI, and the IUML and put an end to the ongoing suspense.

Meanwhile, another interesting development is emerging from political corridors as per reliable sources. Reportedly, some MLAs who won from AIADMK are willing to extend unanimous support to Vijay. Four time MLA and current Rajyasabha member of AIADMK, C.V. Shanmugam is said to be playing a key role in this intense lobbying with his coterie of MLAs to join hands with Vijay.

As Vijay’s TVK is short of 10 seats to form the government, there is always a chance for politicking and volatility even if he scrapes past the required mark of 118 with the slender support of Congress and other small parties with insignificant numbers.

Political experts feel that his government will be on a sticky ground with such an alliance. Moreover, he won’t get any support from the Centre which is ruled by the BJP if he ties up with Congress now.

Another dilemma that Vijay will face is that he cannot accept simultaneous support from MLAs of AIADMK which went into elections with the alliance of BJP while also seeking the help of Congress.

But, his government will gain more stability with the support of such MLAs rather than other parties in future except for the legal complications pertaining to defections.

Even the Governor also hinted that Vijay can form the government without any alliance by taking external support. So, it is now up to Vijay to take the big call and make the next move which will decide the future of Tamil Nadu politics.
