High Drama: Vijay As CM, Not Just Yet?

Tamil Nadu politics have invited the attention of the Indian political followers as Vijay is set to take charge as the new CM of the state shortly. But this isn’t going to be a straightforward process just yet as there are multiple complications associated with the same.

In this connection, Vijay met with the Tamil Nadu governor earlier and conveyed the intention to swear in as the CM.

However, the catch here is that Vijay has 107 MLAs on his side in the assembly and needs another 11 to cross the magic figure and form the government. Congress has 5 MLAs and they’re contributed already and Vijay needs to find another 6.

But however, this is a point for a discussion at a later point in time as Vijay is the logical favourite for the CM post considering that his TVK is the single largest party in Tamil Nadu. This was intimated to the governor as Vijay submitted the letter pertaining to MLAs support to the governor.

But the governor is said to be not yet convinced by the numbers situation and wants Vijay to prove absolute majority to form the government with 118 MLAs on his side.

This has resulted in a peculiar situation in the Raj Bhavan of Tamil Nadu as Vijay’s much anticipated swearing in ceremony gets delayed that much further from the governor’s end.

We shall see if the situation turns better by tomorrow as Vijay is scheduled to swear in tomorrow. But if the governor insists otherwise, this could get a bit longer than expected.

While political analysts say the situation is turning chaotic, what the Governor is doing does not make much sense, as the single largest party TVK should ideally be invited first to form the government and prove its majority on the floor of the House, which is the established democratic process.
