“We Won’t Disturb Vijay’s Govt”: Stalin’s Big Statement

For the past two days, Tamil Nadu politics have been in the spotlight of the entire nation unlike any other topic in recent times as dramatic developments, intense lobbying, suspense negotiations and secret back channel talks took place in the aftermath of Monday’s election result as all major parties scrambled to form government with the help of bizzare alliances.

As Vijay’s TVK struggled to forge a substantial tie up with any available options, the Governor has categorically rejected his stake to claim power, leaving him stranded in the run up to Chief Minister’s chair despite winning majority of seats out of the 234. The suspense has led to baseless reports that there is a possibility of DMK – AIADMK coming together to form the government.

But, DMK supremo and outgoing Chief Minister MK Stalin has taken a mature stand and ruled out any such possibility. He also made it clear that his party will not resort to any unconstitutional practices and won’t stop Vijay from forming the government. He further noted that his party will closely watch how the new government stands by its poll promises for the next six months.

While this clarification will settle the nerves among DMK supporters, the AIADMK still seems to be open for negotiations as some of its winning MLAs are still camped secretly at a resort in Puducherry. It is unclear whether these MLAs are trying to deflect into TVK and give him support to form government or whether they are a part of manoeuvring by their chief Palaniswamy.

While the AIADMK is maintaining that all is well, political circles are buzzing that these MLAs might be keen to jump the ship and join TVK unconditionally.

Amid all this drama, the security which was assigned to Vijay after his resounding victory was withdrawn, much to the surprise of everyone. With every minute, more drama is unfolding and the suspense continues as it seems like a nail biting climax is in the offing with every different outcome still possible given that it is a political game.

Adding to this drama and suspense, Vijay is going to meet Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at 11 AM today again. We have to wait and see what is the next scene in this political thriller.
