Auto Driver Becomes MLA: Real Or Fake?

South Indian politics are known for their theatric nature. This got elevated further with the recent electoral result in Tamil Nadu, where Vijay’s TVK created such a big storm that several common people who were given tickets ended up winning as MLAs.

There are many such stories of common people becoming legislators thanks to the wave created by Vijay in Tamil Nadu politics.

However, the point of discussion now is support this one particular auto driver KV Vijay Damu had been the focal point of discussion since the last week.

Initially, Damu created a lot of political debate as he declared himself as a humble auto driver who rose from the streets to become an MLA in 2026 under Vijay’s TVK. He won the Royapuram Assembly constituency by pulling 59,000 votes, which is a significant number for a first time contestant who also claims to be an auto driver.

However, there are a few social media posts that are going viral now where we see Damu might have claimed a fake PR campaign into project himself as an auto driver.

According to this viral social media post, this newly elected MLA did not even declare an autorickshaw in his vehicle list on the affidavit that he had failed with the election commission. In fact, he even declared a brand new Toyota Innova car that is valued at over ₹20,00,000.

In the election affidavit, he had not declared any source of income as it was marked 0. This is oddly strange for an auto driver. He has not declared liabilities either.

This post is now going viral on social media as people are actively commenting that a fake PR campaign might have been run to show him as a humble auto driver who became an MLA.

The responsibility is now on the MLA or perhaps even on the TVK Media wing to clarify on this matter as such revelations will create a negative impression on the party. We have to see what would be the official clarity to this effect.

While TVK supporters claim that, as he is an auto driver, the car could possibly be a second hand vehicle bought for income purposes like cab or travel services, many middle class individuals do invest in used premium vehicles for business needs. However, with questions now being raised publicly, it is up to the TVK party and its IT wing to clarify the matter.
