For the last couple of years, the Indian government and authorities had been facing many complaints about the censorship of digital content on social media. Platforms like X (Twitter), Youtube and Instagram are having to comply with the restrictions set by the Indian government regarding news circulation.
The opposition parties have been repeatedly arguing that the NDA government is taking away basic human rights by censoring content as they wish. Now something pretty significant has happened in this regard.
The video related to this swearing in ceremony of Thalapathy Vijay as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and the participation of opposition leader, Rahul Gandhi are reportedly being blocked.
Apparently, Instagram blocked Rahul Gandhi’s reel and photo post featuring him with Thalapathy Vijay at today’s swearing-in ceremony. The reel had crossed 12 million views within an hour, while the photo post had already reached nearly 46 million people before restrictions were imposed under “legal requirements.”
The video posted by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi featuring Thalapathy Vijay, who is currently the talk of the town, has intensified opposition allegations of a social media blockade by Indian authorities.
“What exactly is so dangerous about visuals from a constitutional swearing-in ceremony? This raises serious concerns over selective censorship and suppression of Opposition voices in the digital space.” A Congress senior leader posted on this matter.
