Vijay’s TVK appears to be getting stronger with every passing hour in Tamil Nadu politics. The latest support coming from a larger section of AIADMK is now turning into a major political advantage for Vijay ahead of the crucial floor test.
AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam openly stated that Edappadi Palaniswami was willing to move towards an alliance with DMK despite the party’s long standing political fight against them. He said many leaders strongly opposed this move, which eventually led to the split and support for Vijay.
Interestingly, Congress, VCK, CPI, CPM and IUML had earlier made it clear that they would not support Vijay if he moved closer to NDA allies. However, Congress also indicated that it would not object if AIADMK distances itself from BJP.
Now, AIADMK leaders themselves are saying that the NDA alliance became one of the reasons behind the party’s electoral downfall. This changes the political narrative completely and could make it easier for Vijay to accept the outside support from the AIADMK faction.
If Vijay successfully manages portfolio adjustments and alliance equations, his government could become very stable for the next five years without fears about falling short in numbers inside the Assembly.
Adding further strength to Vijay politically is the public sympathy and positive media attention he received after personally visiting almost every opposition party leader yesterday. That move is now being seen as a mature political gesture during a tense situation.
