If the earlier speech delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anything to go by then there could be pretty significant repercussions at the global level which would affect fuel supply and precious metals market in India.
This is perhaps the principle reason why Modi suggested the common public to refrain from excessive commute in order to save petrol and diesel while also reducing dependency on gold.
In tune with this, the prime minister has largely reduced his convoy vehicles. He usually goes around in a dozen vehicles but has cut it down to just two vehicles now (only for few places). This is a part of his initiative to reduce dependency on fuel.
This is followed by something substantial done by the Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu as well. He has also called for politicians to reduce their convoy vehicles effective immediately.
The chief minister said his own convoy, and also those of the ministers would be reduced by a significant margin in the next few days. He advised them against foreign vacations and tours as well.
This is essentially a positive reinforcement even for the common public who are frequently frustrated by the excessive convoy arrangements of leading politicians.
So if Chandrababu and his ministers can actually follow on the initiative set by Narendra Modi, the outcome would be very positive even in the public eye. But the real challenge is going to be effective application and sustenance of the same.
