Congress Rewards Sharmila: Rajya Sabha Berth Confirmed?

The Congress party has been slowly regaining power in South India after having already won Telangana and Karnataka. The recent alliance with TVK in Tamil Nadu and the remarkable rise to power in Kerala have rejuvenated Congress party to the fullest capacity.

Now the Congress appear to be focus on Andhra Pradesh and they have rightly rewarded their regional president Sharmila to a very good degree.

As per media reports, It is confirmed by AICC president and one of the Senior leaders in the Congress party, Mallikarjuna Kharge that Sharmila is confirmed to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka state on behalf of the Congress party.

This would be a significant promotion to Sharmila, who is the President of Andhra Pradesh Congress, but it is reported that this was a long due.

Apparently, the Congress party promised Sharmila that she would be given the Rajya Sabha membership before she joined the party, and they have finally honoured the same now.

However, this additional responsibility to share will come with its own set of challenges as she will have to balance the work in the Rajya Sabha and also simultaneously run Andhra Pradesh Congress.

Sharmila had been very vocal for the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh, but the party has not yet lost momentum in the state. It has to be seen if this reward given to Sharmila by the Congress party in the form of the Rajya Sabha membership would fuel her political ambitions and in turn help the party in the state.
