Indian Rare Earth Minerals Project: AP Is Front Runner?

Earlier this year, the government of India proposed the idea to develop rare earth, mineral corridors in four individual states across the country and Andhra Pradesh to be one of them.

Andhra Pradesh is one of the strategic and geographical locations that is apt for rare earth, mineral expression, and this is exactly what the Indian government is looking for at this point in time.

Andhra Pradesh holds 211 million metric tonnes of beach and mineral sources, making it a perfect destination for extraction and processing. Chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu has also reacted very positively to his proposal made by the central government.

Thanks to the fact that Andhra Pradesh has one of the biggest coastal lines in all of India, this mineral processing project couldn’t have come at a better time.

Now it is reported that Reliance, Vedanta, and Adani are partnering with the Indian government to established dedicated mineral processing units. So this naturally, the opportunity for Andhra Pradesh government to put their hands up and Lokesh was already on the job.

“This is amazing. But which is this state in India with a progressive rare earth policy that has several majors lining up to invest over ₹50,000 cr in mining, processing and manufacturing? Turns out good policy is the most powerful rare earth of all” Lokesh posted on social media, a few minutes back.

This is a strong indication that Andhra Pradesh is going to be the main hub for mineral extraction as India prepares for reduced dependency on China for the same.

On June 10 and 11, reports confirmed that these three heavyweights are among roughly ten companies that have officially expressed interest in developing rare earth element processing facilities in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh plans to carve out dedicated titanium and rare earth clusters and is aggressively targeting around ₹50,000 crore in investments over the next decade.

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet approval for its rare earth corridor policy is expected within a month, and the tenders will follow immediately after.
