MAVIGUN Effect: YCP Leaders Calling BJP Bigwigs?

YS Jagan has publicly announced that his party will go ahead with MAVIGUN as its primary agenda for the 2029 Andhra Pradesh Assembly election. He has made it very clear that only those who believe in this capital model should vote for him, while the rest can support the TDP.

This abrupt decision from Jagan came out of the blue, and it appears that even YSR Congress leaders were taken aback by his rigid stand. As we had reported earlier, there is internal talk that even the YCP top leadership had no idea Jagan would make such a major announcement on the capital issue.

As an after effect, it is now being reported that several YCP leaders are looking to change course. They are reportedly contemplating a move to the BJP, as they feel the YCP is becoming a sinking ship following Jagan’s announcement on the capital.

On one hand, there is strong public sentiment in favour of developing Amaravati as the sole capital. On the other, Jagan appears unwilling to take feedback or advice from YCP leaders regarding MAVIGUN. This has reportedly dented the confidence of many party leaders and made them feel their opinions no longer matter.

This perception gained further attention when Andhra Pradesh BJP senior leader CM Ramesh claimed that several YCP leaders had contacted the BJP and expressed their willingness to join the party.

“YCP seniors are telling us they can no longer tolerate Jagan’s irrational views. His only intention is to destroy Andhra Pradesh because he believes he will never become Chief Minister again. That is why they want to leave the sinking ship and join the BJP,” CM Ramesh alleged.

The BJP leader’s claim that YCP leaders are reaching out and expressing interest in switching parties is politically significant. Early reactions on social media have also been largely negative towards MAVIGUN, and this appears to be influencing opinion within the YCP ranks as well.

At a time when Jagan is reportedly finding it difficult to convince even his own party leaders about MAVIGUN, it could become an even bigger challenge to convince the general public. If the current trend continues, the issue could have serious political consequences for the YCP in the 2029 elections. Jagan appears to have placed himself in a politically challenging position.
