Pawan Effect: AP Roads Jump from 19th to 2nd Rank

The previous government in Andhra Pradesh faced severe backlash from all quarters for not at all caring about the poor condition of roads all over the state. The public suffered a lot of inconvenience to commute between different places during monsoons.

But, the situation of roads across the state witnessed a dramatic change in the last two years, thanks to the present NDA government for making basic infrastructure as the top priority. And the results are openly evident in every aspect.

In what could be termed as remarkable turnaround, Andhra Pradesh has now secured second place in the country for the quality of rural roads. According to the latest Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) national inspection reports, the state has jumped to the 2nd position across India for road quality. This is a phenomenal comeback from its 19th rank back in 2021–22.

The evaluation conducted by the PMGSY National Quality Monitoring division for works completed between April 2025 and March 2026. While Gujarat ranked first, Andhra got placed in the next position.

The inspection data highlights AP’s exceptional performance. Out of 2,948 roads inspected nationwide, 441 were flagged as sub-standard. However, in Andhra Pradesh, out of 126 roads thoroughly inspected, only one single road was found to be below the quality benchmark.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and his ministry played an instrumental role in this achievement. Pawan Kalyan leads the Department of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development. Right from the start, Pawan Kalyan’s ministry focused heavily on improving village roads.

In the last two years, there have been many instances when Pawan’s department responded quickly and took up road repairs whenever public from remote villages complained about bad roads through social media platforms.
