Remarkable Victory: PK Captures BJP’s Fortress!

A small portion of the Bihar public mandate has been delivered today in the form of the by election in the Bankipur Assembly constituency. This seat was vacated by Nitin Nabin after he took charge as the new president of the BJP, necessitating the by election.

Interestingly, this seat was contested by political strategist Prashant Kishor on behalf of his Jan Suraaj Party, which won 0 seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly election. So, not many great things were expected of him in this election either.

However, PK has surprised everyone with his phenomenal performance as he managed to breach the BJP fortress here. He registered a convincing victory in this crucial Assembly constituency.

The BJP had not lost the Bankipur seat in the last 30 years. In fact, Nitin Nabin’s winning margin in 2025 was a staggering 52,000+ votes. But PK was able to shatter this dominance in his very first attempt as an MLA candidate.

The final result confirmed Prashant Kishor’s emphatic victory. The Jan Suraaj Party chief defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19000 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Kumari finished a distant third, making it a one sided contest between PK and the BJP.

This victory is a major milestone for Prashant Kishor, who has transformed from being one of India’s most sought after election strategists into an elected public representative. More importantly, it marks the first major electoral breakthrough for the Jan Suraaj Party.

For the BJP, this result is not a good signal ahead of the upcoming political battles in Bihar. Losing a stronghold that remained with the party for three decades, and by such a significant margin, is likely to raise serious questions about its grip over its traditional urban vote base.
