Pawan’s Special Focus On Great Green Wall

AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has always shown a deep love for nature, wildlife and environmental protection. His passion for protecting forests and the environment was one of the main reasons he chose to handle the Panchayat Raj, Rural Development & Rural Water Supply; Environment, Forests, Science & Technology portfolios.

Reflecting that commitment, Pawan has now directed officials to speed up the Great Green Wall of Andhra Pradesh project, calling it a crucial initiative to protect the state’s coastline from climate change and environmental damage. He asked the Forest Department to complete the 2026 to 27 targets within the next two months by making the best use of the monsoon season.

Reviewing the project’s progress, Pawan appreciated officials for helping Andhra Pradesh secure the second position in India in mangrove expansion over the last two years. He said the state should perform even better this year by expanding mangrove plantations and encouraging greater public participation in social forestry and palm plantations.

The government has prepared an action plan to expand the Great Green Wall across 8,888 hectares this year. As part of the VBG Ram Ji programme, another 70 lakh saplings will be supplied to coastal districts, giving a major boost to the plantation drive.

Pawan said Andhra Pradesh’s 1,053 kilometre coastline needs strong natural protection against the growing impact of climate change. The project aims to create a five kilometre wide green belt along the coast using mangroves, palm trees, shelter belts and native plant species. He also stressed the need for local communities to actively participate in protecting and expanding green cover.

The Deputy CM said the NDA government is closely monitoring the project and is committed to completing the targets on schedule, making the Great Green Wall one of Andhra Pradesh’s biggest environmental initiatives.
