BJP and Congress have resorted to a fresh social media war, and this time it got worsened further. This time, the two political parties caught up with the latest 80s AI trend. 80s AI trend is meant to convert latest pics into old school pics to give an 80s look. But this completely took a political turn, with the Congress and BJP choosing AI to fight with each other. This resulted in a full-blown social media battle taking digs at each other, some indirect and some direct.
The Congress unit in Kerala shared an AI-generated photograph showing a bald man sitting in the front passenger seat of a Maruti Omni van.The image was posted with the caption, “A Gujarat street in the 80s.”
A poster visible on a wall beside the road carried the Hindi message, “Please smile, you are in Delhi.” The post quickly attracted attention, with several users pointing to what they saw as a political message aimed at the BJP and its Gujarat connection.
The choice of the Maruti Suzuki Omni also appeared deliberate. The van, which was first introduced in India in 1984, became a popular vehicle in Bollywood films and was often shown as the vehicle used by villains and goons. Over the years, it earned the informal meme label of a ‘kidnapping van.’
The BJP’s response came from its Telangana unit.The party shared another AI-generated image showing a woman in a red dress dancing on a table inside a bar. Several people can be seen watching her, while liquor bottles are visible in glass cabinets in the background.
The BJP reposted the Congress post and described its own AI-generated picture as, “Lusiana, Italy. Circa-1970s.”
The post did not directly name anyone. However, the reference appeared to point towards Lusiana, the Italian town where Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was born. BJP’s Keralam unit also targeted the Congress indirectly through an AI-post showing leaders cheering in a bar watching a bar dancer.
This kinda worst political behaviour of two veteran parties is certainly unwarranted. social media handles of the two responsible parties became senseless. What began as a fun social media trend using ChatGPT quickly became another tool for political campaigning and trolling on social media.
