Andhra Pradesh politics is heating up with the ongoing local body elections, and several interesting scenes are being witnessed during the nomination process. One such incident in Tirupati has caught everyone’s attention, as a group of independent candidates arrived to file their nominations with sacks full of ₹2 coins.
Around 10 independent candidates reportedly came to submit their nominations for the Tirupati Mayor post on Saturday. Instead of bringing the deposit amount in regular currency notes, they carried the money in the form of ₹2 coins packed inside sacks.
As candidates are required to pay a deposit along with their nomination papers, the officials had to receive and count the coins before completing the process. However, the huge number of coins made the counting process time consuming, delaying the proceedings at the nomination centre.
With the counting taking longer than expected, the candidates were asked to sit in a queue inside the premises. The unusual sight of sacks filled with coins at the nomination centre soon became a talking point among those present.
The incident has added an unexpected twist to the ongoing nomination process in Tirupati. While political activity continues to pick up across Andhra Pradesh ahead of the local polls, the independent candidates’ ₹2 coin move has certainly grabbed attention.
