Will Jagan Oppose Delimitation Now?

Despite being in the opposition, Jagan faced several complaints of silent surrender to the NDA leadership. Most of the bills that were presented by the NDA government in the Parliament were supported by YSR Congress even when the party was in opposition.

However, it appears to be that one of this decisions made by Jagan to support the NDA have come back to haunt himself.

Jagan said publicly today that he regrets the earlier move of supporting the centre’s change of procedures for the appointment of new chief election commissioner. He gave the implication that the new CEC is not following certain principles and this affected his YSR Congress as well in the 2024 election.

Notably, Jagan’s party had 22 Lok Sabha MPs when he supported the bill to overturn the Supreme Court judgement on CEC/ECs appointment just before Lok Sabha polls. Above that, NDA on it’s own had two-thirds majority in Lok Sabha then.

But now that Jagan is completely regretting this idea of supporting the new procedure for the appointment of CEC, this brings us to the question on whether he would stand against the NDA at the central level now.

The next big question is if Jagan would avoid supporting the centre’s delimitation bill if it comes to that. Earlier, YCP supported this bill when it was passed in the Parliament. But the bill ended up failing the House test due to lack of majority.

It should be a matter of time before this bill is presented in the house again, and we have to see if Jagan would have the integrity to oppose it at least now. Considering that he is regretting the decision of supporting the CEC bill earlier, it has to be seen if he would be standing against the delimitation bill henceforth.
