End of Botsa Era In Uttarandhra?

Botsa Satyanarayana is the Senior Leader of YSR Congress in Uttarandhra. Botsa had his time in Congress during YSR’s time as Number Two in the party and the Government.

He hesitated to join Jagan when the latter floated his own party and struck to the Congress despite the fact that it got severely battered due to the Bifurcation.

His family lost the 2014 elections and he later joined the YSR Congress Party in 2015.

Even though, he never rose to the position of Number two in YSR Congress, he is still the keyman for the party in Uttarandhra region.

Botsa became the Cabinet Minister after YSR Congress’ Victory in 2019 elections. But things turned topsy-turvy with YSR Congress’ defeat in the 2024 elections.

In the 2024 elections, Botsa’s family was given five tickets but lost all those.

Botsa contested from Cheepurupalli, his brother Appalanarasaiah contested from Gajapathinagaram, and his co-brother Baddukonda Appalanaidu got the Nelimarla ticket.

His wife Botsa Jhansi had contested for Visakhapatnam MP. Vizianagaram MP Candidate Bellana Chandrasekhar is also a relative of Botsa. But all of them were defeated in that election.

Fearing that Botsa will turn to some other party, Jagan made him an MLC and gave him the Leader of Opposition post in the Council. Botsa is spearheading YSR Congress’s attack in the Council where the party has the majority.

In the last two days, Botsa suffered more collateral damage. All the leaders including his nephew, Majji Srinu who are considered his strongmen in the district left the party and joined the Telugu Desam Party.

With the strategic intent of securing the Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chairperson position, Botsa Satyanarayana fielded his daughter, Botsa Anusha, for the Bondapalli ZPTC seat—a constituency considered his own stronghold. However, the local electorate handed her a crushing defeat.

Telugu Desam Party candidate Pashala Neeraja emerged victorious over Anusha by a massive margin of 5,136 votes. This stunning verdict—delivered by the people against the daughter of the Botsa family, which has dominated district politics for decades—has sent shockwaves throughout Vizianagaram district.

The Botsa family, having long viewed the Bondapalli ZPTC seat as an unassailable bastion, treated this election as a matter of prestige and threw all their resources into the fray.

Botsa Satyanarayana personally devised the strategy and mobilized the party machinery on the ground, working tirelessly to ensure his daughter’s victory. He even leveraged influence at the highest levels—reaching up to Tadepalli—in a bid to secure her win and pave the way for her to ascend to the Zilla Parishad Chairperson’s chair.

A commoner winning against his own daughter will send shockwaves to Botsa Satyanarayana.

Adding insult to injury, Majji Srinu’s Siri Sahasra will make things worse for the Senior Leader.

Siri Sahasra comfortably won from Terla ZP.

Voters rejecting Botsa Anusha who is being projected as the heir of Botsa Satyanarayana is a big shock.

The pattern of these results clearly signals the end of the ‘Botsa era’ in the politics of Vizianagaram district.
